Von Fälschern und Betrügern in der Kölner Oper

Zum Abschluss präsentierte die lit.COLOGNE Spezial ein absolutes Highlight, denn der Philosoph, Essayist und Romanautor Umberto Eco stellte in der Kölner Oper seinen neuen, lang erwarteten Roman “Der Friedhof in Prag“ vor.

Begleitet wurde Eco von Denis Scheck, der unterhaltsam durch den Abend führte, Dolmetscherin Paola Barbon, die gekonnt charmant übersetzte und dem Schauspieler Michael Wittenborn, der dem Ganzen in Ecos Roman die deutsche Stimme gab.

Eco kreiert in seinem Roman einen unsympathischen Helden, eine gar hassenswerte Figur: Simonini. Als Fälscher und Intrigant begleitet der Leser ihn im ausgehenden 19. Jahrhundert auf seinen Weg durch Unruhen und Verschwörungen. Simonini erlebt aus nächster Nähe die Dreyfus-Affäre bis schlussendlich die “Protokolle der Weisen von Zion” auftauchen, jenes gefälschte Dokument für eine jüdische Weltverschwörung.
Ihm habe es Spaß gemacht, diese Figur zu erschaffen, entgegnet Eco auf Schecks Frage, ob man solch einem Helden die Stimme leihen darf. Oftmals, so Eco weiter, sei man in der Realität doch von noch Schlimmeren umgeben und schließlich sei er nicht verantwortlich für die Dummheit der Leute, diese entstehe aus deren Vorurteilen. Im Roman werden eingangs Deutsche, Italiener, Franzosen, Jesuiten und Freimaurer von Simonini mit Vorurteilen jeglicher Art belastet und auch später würdigt er die im Kölner Dom aufbewahrten Reliquien der Heiligen Drei Könige keinesfalls: “… soweit ich weiß, werden sogar ihre [die der Heiligen Drei Könige] sterblichen Reste irgendwo verehrt.” Augenzwinkernd bemerkt Eco, sie seien den Mailändern von den Kölnern gestohlen worden.

Insgesamt ein mehr als gelungener Abend, bei dem Eco mit viel bissigem Humor und als ausgezeichneter Fabulant die Zuhörer für sich gewinnen kann. Mit einer nicht enden wollenden Schlange an Signierwünschen schließt dann ein teuflisch guter Abend.
